Our History
Foppe Insurance has been helping southern Illinois families and businesses protect their homes, autos, and businesses for over 70 years. We had our beginning when the late Shelby Woods began selling fire and auto insurance. In 1957 Mr. Woods retired and Ferd Foppe took over the agency and re-named it Foppe Insurance Agency. Clinton County knew Ferd Foppe as a respected city clerk, service station operator and community leader.
After Ferd’s sudden death in 1965, 23 year-old Ron Foppe was thrust into the managing of two insurance agencies located in Trenton and Breese. Ron consolidated the two offices in Breese and began the long struggle of an insurance career at a very young age. Although many customers and companies didn’t believe he could succeed, some gave him a chance to prove himself. Eventually, Ron became a very admired and successful businessman. Through his determination the agency grew by acquiring other agencies from Germantown and Bartelso.
Ron’s son, Bill Foppe, became the third generation of insurance agents in the Foppe family in 1982. Bill went to The College of Insurance in downtown New York City and worked for INA insurance company in a work study program. He currently manages agencies in Mascoutah and Breese.
Our office is located in downtown Breese in two historic retail buildings. They were renovated in 1986 while retaining the best building features like the original stamped metal ceiling. The building is a listed historic site by the Clinton County Historical Society.
In 1987, Foppe Insurance Agency opened a second location in Mascoutah, Illinois by taking over the Mueth Insurance Agency.
Today, we are proud to serve our communities by offering quality coverage with only the best companies at an affordable price.
